What humidity should a basement be?
Keeping relative humidity below 60 percent is a common minimum target, and many homes aim around 45 to 55 percent when practical. Temperature and surface conditions matter as well.
Why does my dehumidifier run all the time?
The unit may be undersized, the space may be open to humid outdoor air, the filter or coil may need service, or liquid water may be entering. The cause should be checked before simply buying a larger unit.
Will a dehumidifier stop water through a wall?
No. It removes vapor from the air; it cannot stop meaningful liquid water entering through masonry, a crack or the wall-floor joint.
